About This Place

Nestled in the heart of Portugal at R. Do Comercio 1, Adélia is a vibrant café that invites visitors to experience a genuine taste of local charm and flavors. This lively spot quickly becomes a beloved pause for travelers and locals alike, drawn by its warm, bustling atmosphere and a menu that beautifully showcases traditional Portuguese delights alongside your classic coffee favorites.

At Adélia, the culinary experience is a delightful journey through the Alentejo region’s essence. Their espresso is rich and robust, waking your senses with every sip, while dishes like Mexelhao Alentejano (a savory mussel dish), the iconic Bifana Especial (a spiced pork sandwich), and the crispy Calamares Fritos highlight authentic regional fare that’s both comforting and enticing. The Salada Á Casa offers a refreshing, garden-fresh contrast, and the hearty Lenguiça Alentejana delivers smoky, spicy notes that linger in the memory. For those craving traditional home-style cooking, the Frango Estufado, a tender stewed chicken dish, is a soul-soothing choice.

The café’s atmosphere is unmistakably lively and bustling—there’s a vibrant energy that pulses through the space, reflecting the local way of life. Customers often comment on the friendly, accommodating service, with staff going the extra mile by allowing guests to refill their water bottles, a thoughtful touch appreciated by weary travelers. While it’s not the place for a quiet, unhurried retreat during peak hours, the authenticity and warmth of the environment more than makeup for the hustle and bustle. The busy setting captures the pace of everyday local life, making it a truly immersive experience.

Several guests rave about the quality and variety of offerings. Maxime H. praises the hearty vegetarian toast paired with freshly squeezed orange juice, lauding it as a perfect, energizing stop. Tom Shortland found the staff exceptionally helpful and welcoming, enhancing his visit beyond just the food and drinks. Attila Fenyő notes the surprisingly good toast sandwiches, broad selection of juices and beers, and solid coffee, though advises visitors to embrace the café’s energetic vibe rather than seek a tranquil retreat.

Adélia’s combination of authentic Portuguese flavors, a no-nonsense friendly service, and a lively atmosphere makes it a must-visit for anyone exploring this charming corner of Portugal. Whether you’re savoring a perfectly brewed espresso, diving into a robust bifana, or simply refilling your water bottle with a smile, the café offers more than just a meal or drink—it delivers a slice of Portuguese everyday life that resonates long after you leave.

Vegetarian toast was hearty and tasty, we also got 40cl of fresh delicious orange juice for only 1,5 euros, highly recommend for a refreshing stop. The mood is busy though so don’t expect a relaxing time but it was authentic and enjoyable

Cafe Adélia is a lovely little cafe, worth a stop for a beer/coffee or a snack. Very nice and helpful staff - even let us fill up our water bottles, when we couldn’t find drinking water nearby. Obrigado! :)

They serve surprisingly good toast sandwiches, have a wide range of juices, beers, some pastry and a decent coffee machine as well. It's an ok place to freshen yourself during the daytrip, but it's a pity that the vibe is chaotic and the ladies are pretty much stressed out under the pressure. All in all it's totally understandable, the point is: don't expect a relaxing atmosphere during the season.
